The ice cream at Kippy’s is organic, non-dairy, non-soy and made from coconut cream and raw honey as opposed to milk and sugar. Over the four days, the cleanse includes a diet consisting of five pints of the good stuff each day and nothing else, except for water.
Cleanses are all the rage in Los Angeles; we’re constantly trying to get healthier, fitter and hotter. Unfortunately many of the cleanse options include little more than spicy lemon water and sips of kale. Healthy? Yes. Filling? Not at all. Kippy’s Ice Cream in Venice is hoping to change this with its awesome sounding yet somewhat questionable “ice cream cleanse.” The cleanse includes eating only ice cream for a four days while enjoying yoga classes next door to the ice cream shop. But before you get excited and go digging into that rocky road you have waiting in the back of the freezer, you should know that Kippy’s ice cream is no ordinary ice cream. The ice cream at Kippy’s is organic, non-dairy, non-soy and made from coconut cream and raw honey as opposed to milk and sugar. Over the four days, the cleanse includes a diet consisting of five pints of the good stuff each day and nothing else, except for water. The fat from coconut oil used to be shunned at all costs but in recent years it has made a major turn around and is actually considered one of the more healthy oil choices. Some go so far as to say that it can actually help people lose weight by eating it in moderation. If you follow the cleanse exactly you will be eating extremely high levels of fat and you will still be getting quite a bit of sugar, despite the fact that it is raw. Where most cleanses cut some elements of a normal day-to-day food habit out like carbs or sugar, this one only lowers in the calorie department. Each day you eat about 1,200 calories worth of ice cream. The cleanse costs $240, but Kippy’s is also open to people who just want to stop by for a scoop. Flavors range from coconut honey to vanilla cappuccino and orange cream, all made with fresh and natural ingredients, and there’s even a chocolaty cacao magic shell to pour on top.
