We've been re-purposing this building into a performance abode since 2003, and are currently adapting it into a flexible creative space to serve as a neighborhood hangout, a fairground for the new day polymaths, and a watering hole for poets and jesters.
As some of you may know, this Hollywood cinder-block facility on route 66 is a former automotive garage and a machine shop for rifles. Under the new name Schkapf, it is intended to be a place for the curious. Schkapf is a nonsense word but bears a close similarity to the Russian шкап which could be translated as a wardrobe, armoire, cupboard, or any variation on this theme. Our space has always been an absurdist cabinet of curiosities, wonders and shenanigans, so it seemed like a proper new moniker.
